PFAS have been found to cause long-term health effects depending on the level and duration

of exposure, including at very low levels. PFAS can be easily imported to environment air,

water, and soil and these chemicals are resistant biodegradation in the environment. PFAS

has been found in food packaging materials (paper and paperboard for food packaging),

consumer products including stain- and water-resistant fabrics and carpeting leather and

apparel, non-stick cookware (e.g. Teflon), polishes, waxes, paints, cleaning products, and fire-fighting foams.

About PFAS：

Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) are synthetic chemicals defined as

“fluorinated substances that contain at least one fully fluorinated methyl or methylene

carbon atom (without any H/ Cl/Br/I atom attached to it), i.e., with a few noted exceptions,

any chemical with at least a perfluorinated methyl group (–CF3) or a perfluorinated

methylene group (–CF2–) is a PFAS.”

PFAS regulations and outlook:

Worldwide, the control of PFAS is becoming increasingly stringent, and more and more PFAS

substances are included or will be included in regulations for control.

More than 30 states in US have introduced legislation to regulate PFAS in textiles, cookware,

youth and children's products, food packaging, and other consumer products. In addition to

banning the intentional addition of PFAS, other regulatory measures include the requirement

for official notification or labeling of products containing PFAS. Regulatory makers in Canada,

EU, Australia also have developed guideline to address environmental and human health

issues to related PFAS.
